Why is talking to Pastors about their call beneficial to me?
- It will help interpret the circumstances about your own call.
- Talking with others about their call is a blessing to them. When a person revisits the circumstance surrounding their call to ministry, they experience a renewed sense of purpose, dedication and vision. It also helps to solidify your own call to ministry.
What am I supposed to ask the pastors when I meet with them?
- What were the experiences through which God first spoke to you?
- Who had a significant influence on your call, and why?
- Who did you first tell about your call, and how did they help you?
- How did you tell your family, and how did they respond?
- Were there any initial hindrances or obstacles that you faced, and what were they?
- How did you being moving toward the fulfillment of your calling?
- Looking back, were the initial impulses that caused you to enter the ministry realistic?
- Have you matured into a new awareness of God’s call, if so, how?
- How have you kept a vision of the highest purposes of ministry, despite all the mundane tasks that it involves?
It is very important how it is that you request an interview with pastors. Just as the questions need to be thought-out, so does the way you approach the pastor for the interview. Call the pastor beforehand, set-up a time and place to meet that is convenient for them. Make sure that you tell them why you want to meet with them, and e-mail the questions before the meeting so they can be well prepared.
