Explore the Call Episode 15: Can Women be Ministers? – Part 1

Woman have a very important role in Ministry, although it is a controversial topic in some denominations. This podcast will elaborate on why some believe that women should not be ordained into full-time ministry.

Disclaimer: Explore the Call and Zion Bible College DO NOT believe that the Scriptures support the limiting of ministry to men only.

There are two passages in the New Testament that people use to support this position:

1 Corinthians 14:34:

The proper context of this passage shows that Paul was addressing a specific disorderly, chaotic, confusing use of spiritual gifts within the Corinthian Church. This passage of Scripture was not addressing a woman’s call, qualification for ministry, or ordination.

1 Timothy 2:12:

Paul is addressing the subject of orderly worship in the midst of chaos in the public worship service.  These were specific influential women participating in disorderly worship and misguided public prayer. This was a specific problem in the local Ephesian church at that time. These women were wearing immodest clothing and distracting the worship service. They were also found to be gossipers within the church and involved in heresy and false teaching. They usurped the authority of the men leaders within the church. Paul was addressing an isolated situation with a specific solution – not to be applied to every church situation.

Many use these two Scriptures as proof-texts to restrict women from ministry, and this is simply an example of taking Scripture completely out of its original context and setting.

This is a really good podcast. I think in the world today, who has a right to tell someone else what God has told them. God is the one that puts the desires in our hearts. He loves all people. What God has placed in my heart is for me, not for others to judge. Woman will be ministering great things to people. This is a really good podcast. It empowers woman who are called to ministry like me, and it encourages us to keep going in the midst of cultural, denominational standards today. Thank you guys for putting this up. It is good to hear a podcast that shows the correct biblical model.

Thank you all for commenting on our page. This podcast really speaks on the misperceptions concerning woman in ministry and the misinterpretations of scripture. Many people have been raised in backgrounds where women were prohibited to minister. Our goal is to continue to get the word out about this website and the podcasts we have available. Most importantly, we wish to help people move forward in what God has for them. We really appreciate all the feedback and if you have any questions or comments you would like to share, feel free to send us a message on our page or Facebook. God bless.

Thank you very much for this podcast Pastor Gene. I appreciate the way you broke down the argument concerning women in ministry. It is nice to see that this website is promoting women in ministry with Scripture. At one point, I encountered opposition toward women in ministry. I believe that we must ask the question, “Does God not bless women in ministry? If He does, then who are we to say that they do not belong there?” Thank you again Pastor Gene.

Thank you Angie for your comments. We appreciate your comment. It is wrong for people to say women are not allowed to minister and it is very sad that even today, women are still prohibited from ministering. Are you involved in any ministries or are you currently pursuing a ministry career?

I really like how ZBC was mentioned about the school was founded by a women and that not only one but two women were presidents. This really sums up that women can be ministers and that the scriptures Paul talks about women is not saying that we can not minister especially to men but is really talking about two-faced women who think that gossip and immodesty is fine with living a Christian life. With saying that, I am not say I more righteousness or any women minister is but they do repent and understand that they are wrong when they do that, Romans 3:23 sums that up but one who lives in it day in and day out, thats who Paul is talking about, not women who do try to change their ways and draw closer to God. Thanks for this website and episode!!!

Romans 3 says, “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” We all received grace from God. We all have fallen short. Amen Katrina. Keep pressing in to what God has for you. God bless.
