Explore the Call Episode 2: What is the Ministry?

What is the difference between doing ministry and being in the ministry? In the New Testament, the word ministry originates from the word “serve” or “service.”

Ministry is “serving.” When you are being Christ-like and reaching out to others, you are ministering to them. A person who answers God’s call, dedicates their life to equipping the church, and serves the body of Christ are said to be “in ministry.” All Christians are called to minister, but some are called to the ministry.

Here are a few examples of what characterizes the vocation of serving in the ministry:

  1. The ministry is something to which a person is called by God.
  2. The ministry requires special qualifications, skills, and training.
  3. The ministry usually requires credentials.
  4. The ministry is a vocation that prepares people to fulfill the call of God in their lives.

Those called to full-time ministry accept the responsibility of recruiting, training, equipping, and releasing God’s people in ministry. Being called to full-time ministry does not make you better than other Christians. As a matter of fact, it makes you obligated to God to serve and lead them.
