People have a tendency to focus on the future but overlook the present. The problem with this tendency is that we often miss the opportunities that God has for us today. Beginning to plan for your future is important; however, there are vital step that you can take while still preparing for your ministry. The amount of preparation you do now will move you forward with maturity and readiness.
Here are a few practical suggestions:
- Tell others about your journey (Proverbs 11:14).
- Talk to a spiritual mentor.
- Stay involved in ministry.
- Study the biblical qualifications of ministers (A list of these qualifications are found in the Equipment Room of this site).
- Volunteer for one to two day internships in your local church.
- Participate in ministry events and festivals.
- Start searching for a Bible college (www.colleges.ag.org)Complete list of Assemblies of God colleges within the United States). Consider Explore the Call’s partner school Zion Bible College (www.zbc.edu).
- Prepare for ministry employment during your time at Bible college.
One of the ways that God confirms your call is by giving you spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, temperaments, and experiences that complement your future ministry. You need to discover what these things are because it will reveal the type of ministry God has for you.

- A book called S.H.A.P.E.: Finding and Fulfilling Your Unique Purpose for Life by Erik Rees
- A website called servingsweetspot. This is a free online spiritual gift inventory for Explore the Call subscribers.
